URGENT QUESTION - Silicon skirtboards

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.55 PM

HI, I have builders finishing at my house and they have laid laminated boards throughout the house and then put the skirtboards. The skirtboards have gaps between them and the flooring (in some places) . The builders tell me that after siliconing them against the skirt boards , the silicon might stick off .... is that possible ? what is the right way to not leave a gap between the skirt boards and the flooring if they tell me the skirtboards would move becuase of the weight they handle in different moments. thank you!!!!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The tradesman who fitted the skirting boards should have scribed them to the floor if the floor has dips in it. I do not understand what you mean by the silicone might stick off?

I agree, they definitely should have scribed the skirting to the floor, although I don't understand what the builder would have meant by the skirting handling different weight - skirting is purely aesthetic and bears no weight what so ever. I would assume that they could not be bothered to scribe it and made this up as a poor excuse for not doing the job properly!

like the others have said..skirting would be scribed to the floor if it dips and runs out in places as for the silicone questions..are you saying they have used silicone to fix the skirting to the wall? secondly skirting only really serves to hide the join between the wall and the floor
