Plaster or Paint?

Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hiya, I've just bought my first house and would like to get the ceilings re plastered - not a fan of the textured look! I'd also like to put coving up as well. But at the same time I'm also itching to start painting the walls and don't particularly want to wait for the plastering to be finished before I can start on the fun stuff! Is it an issue if I paint first and then get the plastering and coving done? Is there a chance the latter could mess up the newly painted walls? Or should I get the plastering done first? Thank you in advance!!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Get the ceiling done first. Your paint will be ruined if not.

Hi, Always plaster first. It is a wet trade and can splash and no matter how careful the plasterer you will end up with splashes on the wall. The same goes for painting do the ceiling and coving then the wall and the woodwork last. Remember to use a new plaster paint on the ceiling to allow it to breath, a supercover emulsion would work well.

Wait for the plaster to be completed then paint. You're going to need to paint the ceiling once they have been plastered so you're better off waiting other wise you'll be trying to cut in the ceiling to finished walls. More importantly however, if you paint first, you're nice, freshly painted walls will be covered in plaster! Plaster the ceilings, put the coving up, then paint it all. Patience is a virtue!

Not the greatest of plans "HOLD TIGHT" get the plastering done 1st its not worth the chance of messing up your newly painted walls and wasting of paint and time. Rome wasn't built in a day.

It is pointless painting the walls first as plastering ceilings can be a messy job. You may aswell just bite the bullet and have your ceilings plastered first. Otherwise you're wasting time and money. The finish will look better anyway.

Plaster the cieling 1st because there is a chance that you will get splashes on the walls both from plaster and white paint plus you will have to cork the coving in so no point doing ya walls yet till cieling is painted. well thats my view on your situation, thanks
