My driveway appeared to be properly completed in Sept 2013. After 2 hot days in May 2014, areas of tarmac melted and the driveway started to break up in those areas after cars drove onto the driveway. I was told it was my fault because of my power steering and how I backed into my garage. I was told I needed to look after my driveway for at least 1 to 2 years. I was only told not to drive onto the driveway for 1 week when I asked in Sept 2013. Since May 2014 I have been told on numerous occasions that my driveway will be fixed. It has inevitably got worse. Is my driveway fit for purpose and what can I do?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
I would ask a local reputable tarmac company to carry out a report with recommendations on the driveway which has almost certainly been poorly laid. Once you have the report send this to the company that installed it giving them 14 days to rectify the problems.
If this is not carried out take them to the small claims court with as much evidence as possible.
Court is not as bad as people think and if you have all the right documents then you should win.
You should get the company that does the report to give you a cost to rectify the problems and this should be the basis of your claim. You can also claim all of your costs including any charge the new company make for carrying out the report.

Yes I agree with patios and drives it sounds like it's been put down poorly probably about an inch thick and just covered on top
Looks good for a couple of months maybe year then starts to crack and crumble

Tarmac asphalt should be laid at a minimum depth of 50mm anything less is sub standard in my opinion if it had of been laid 50mm the job would last 10yrs plus without any problems if you have a written guarantee from the company you employed to do the job then contact your local trading standards and they will deal on your behalf and I'm sure they will sort it out for you

For me it sounds like the wrong pen tarmac has been used I recommend either a 6mm or 10mm sma wearing course be used
Without knowing what material was used, how hot the temperature was and looking. It is hard to say for sure, if it is extremely hot sometimes turning on the spot can scuff a drive. Also if it is not laid deep enough this could cause you problems
