How to check the pressure of water is good enough for a mixer shower connector or Power shower
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.11 PM
I am refurbing my bathroom. One of the questions I can't decide is what type of shower to install. TO save money i would like a mixer tap with shower attachment however I am told that i need food water pressure for this to work. We have a combi boiler but am unsure how to really check if the pressure is enough for a decent shower. Don't want to learn after i have completed the bathroom

All showers require a minimum flow rate of 9L/min, all combi boilers are designed to achieve at least that. But consider if you boiler breaks down = no heat and no hot water. Get a litre measuring jug turn the hot water tap on, start a stop watch at the same time, when it reaches 1 litre stop the watch (be quick) divide the amount of seconds it takes into 1 minute this will give your boiler hot water flow rate E.G. 6 seconds ÷ 60 seconds = 10 ltr/min flow rate.
If you choose a regular boiler this will involve having a hot water cylinder fitted too, which means that you have an auxiliary form of hot water by means of an immersion heater if the boiler breaks down, worth considering if only for the sake of having a back up supply of hot water!

You must use a 2/5mil bar thermostatic bar shower mixer made for combi boilers. The boiler will pump the water round at a standard pressure of 2/5mbar.
This for your own safety. get a plumber to fit it with a small inline water softner
They varie in price from £75 to £250 depending on make. available from screw fix or any plumbing shop
