Re-plastering ceiling and adding spots, plasterer or electrician first?
Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.30 PM
I want to skim artex ceilings (probably plaster board over) but also change position of ceiling lights/introduce spots. Does the electrician come before or after the plasterer?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi,
You'll want your electrician first. He/she can make holes in your existing ceiling to run cables and find joist without the worry of damaging your new ceiling as you'll be re-boarding and plastering once the electrician has first fixed. Then your plasterer can board and skim your existing ceiling. once this is done you electrician can return to 2nd fix and finish off your lights.

Defo, electrition first so they can get cables for spots in correct place.
Doing after plastered is possible if there is access above ceiling, ie bedroom or a loft area but there is a chance of damage to your newly plastered ceiling. Why chance it?

I would personally recommend you get the electrician in first as then if there is any making good to be done the plasterer can rectify this before any skimming takes place, hope this helps

I agree with kg plastering why risk plastering first you might as well get the election first so the plasterer can The job properly... in general single lights are centred to the room and the centre hole needs filling when spots are introduced
