earth bonding for gas

hi am having electrical installation in my house and my electrician told me that the earth bonding for the gas was not done properly ( this was done when i installed the new boiler about three years ago). what they had done they have use the gas pipe as an earth bonding ! when i have spoken to the company , i was told that it was done according to the regulation at that time! can anyone confirm to me that we can use the pipe as an earth bonding.

The Gas pipe work requires to BE BONDED not to be the earth bonding. The equipotential bonding should be a max of 600mm from the gas meter or as close as possible if this distance is not possible and before any branch. The bonding is there in the case of your appliances or pipe work come into contact with a live cable, this will then feed back to your main consumer unit/fuse board and trip your RCDs/MCBs/Fuses. The gas pipe work must not be used as an earth conductor to Ground/earth. The earthing system at your property should be 1 of 3 types: TT, TN-S or TN-C S. TT usually found in rural areas, (earth to a ground rod) TN-S earth to usually the cable sheath and TN-C-S earth to the neutral (PME) this uses the neutral for the earth fault.
