Fix weeping pipe joint with Sylglas Plumber Fix or something similar?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.10 PM

I have a problem with a leaking radiator pipe: the leak occurs at the joint where the 8mm copper microbore pipe exits the lock shield valve. After accidentally knocking the valve, it was leaking at a rate of 1 big drop of water per second last night but has decreased by itself to 1 drop every few minutes. Is there a chance this will even sort itself out even more to the point of needing no immediate repair? I'm also wondering whether there's a chance a mild leak like this could be fixed (at least temporarily) with a product like Sylglas Plumber Fix or whether that's just a waste of time? Any thoughts / advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Hello, The reason the leak has reduced is that you have a sealed system (only a set amount of water, not like old systems that were low pressure but kept filling themselves) If you locate the pressure gauge( normally under boiler next to filling loop) you will see there is next to no pressure (should be around 1 bar) when this drops to 0 your boiler will not operate(so don't think it is getting better). I do not recommend using a sealant such as this in this location, if you tighten the gland nut where the pipe comes out it should solve your problem, not too much maybe 1/10 of a turn...then refill the system Regards Simon
