How to paint a textured wall with normal matt wall paint when current coat is gloss
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.14 PM
Hi I have a couple of walls in a bedroom where the previous owner has painted with gloss. The walls are textured (not papered), the surface has little lumps and little dimples. Having paint some other walls it is very time consuming ensuring you get paint into the dimples. So putting matt on my gloss wall does not stick and rubs off. Any suggestions how I should tackle this? Sanding is one soltution but it would impossible to get into the dimples. Regards C

cheaper way to solve this, pva the walls this, will help the paint stick to the gloss, super grip dulux, is very good but more expensive
l would use a heavy pile masonry sleave

pva ? really? hmmmm
as polish said, super grip , zinnser bin or mythic black label they all stick to surfaces with out sanding.
don't go down the pva route , wont look great when your new paint comes off in sheets or cracks and looks like snake skin

Too many people always think PVA is the answer .It is not as the previous answer from KDS PVA can come of in sheets like snakeskin zinger bin sticks brilliantly you will probably have to work it in with a brush then paint over with emulsion using a good sheepskin roller long pile
