hiya, I would like to know if a roofer, who just replaced the hip tiles on our roof 10 month ago, has to come out free of charge if the same tiles blew off again.
The insurance won't pay, because they say it is bad workman ship. The roofer repaired the hip tiles last year in February and beginning of January this year they blew off again.
The roofer said he won't do it, because it was a repair on an old roof, it is in an wind tunnel and the chimney is creating a natural vortex. What ever that means. Strangely all the other hip tiles are still on, ours and all of the neighbours.
Question is: is the roofer responsible to repair our roof?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Personally I would come and repair this if I had done the job, old roof or new roof if you are happy to take the money for a repair then you should be happy to guarantee your work unless I had expressed that it was a temporary fix in the first place and that a new roof was needed.
If this is a wind prone situation then there are ways of further securing the ridges/hips with proprietary fixings that are drilled through the ridge/hip tile securing them to the ridge/hip rafter below.
Its quite simple and all that is needed is a cordless drill and a nice sharp drill bit and the fixings. Bed them back on or replace with new ridge tiles and drill and fix them before the final pointing is done.

First of all did you get a guarantee off this guy, I'm a roofer myself so I would have gave you at least a 12 month guarantee, I'm guessing he hasn't installed them correctly, personally I would have come back, but like to think if I had of done it I wouldn't have to come back ever, roofing work is probably the easiest job to cut corners and get away with murder, we see it week in week out with clueless scumbags having innocent people over,
To do (hip tiles) right you need to remove all remaining hip tiles above and re- nail and mortar them back into place he may have just mortar fix just the one for you depanding on the price he give you
