Plumbing

Wobbly Toilet to Fix

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.10 PM

I've read text and seen videos of how to fix a wobbly toilet. In the experience of plumbers, are most of these types of jobs simply tightening of a nut, or is it more likely to be a bigger job (shutting off the water, taking the toilet off, replacing the flange/wax ring etc)? Roughly how much would it cost to fix if it were the bigger job? The job would be in Glasgow, if cost makes a difference there compared to elsewhere. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Most likely is that you have floorboards that need fixing down as toilets do not just get wobbly for no reason. If it is on concrete/screed flooring then replacing the screws will most likely help. Be sure to use brass or stainless steel screws to stop them corroding.

Check the strength of the floor below. If it is concrete or solid this should be fine however it the floor boards are loose this would most likely need the toilet to be removed (Roughly 2hours work). Should the floor be solid you could use a high strength anti mould silicone such as Dow Corning 785 as this is used to seal toilets to the floor without screws when underfloor heating is present.
