Ask a questionRoofing
Wet loft and possibly lack of flashing
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.10 PM
Hi Our house was built in 1830. The loft beams seem to be quite damp an there is no felt on the roof. We'd like to use the loft for storages so is it possible to felt the roof or otherwise insulate without re-roofing? Also - there has ben a extension and there is ceiling damp where the new bit joins the old, it seems to have no flashing on the exterior. Should this be resolved or is flashing not standard? Are there other ways to sort out the damp instead? Thanks so much Jo

hi as for your loft there is no way you could felt roof without striping aslong as the roof doesn't leak it wauld be fine for storage just seal up any leak points on roof is all you can do really . parting wall if its an old building the used to use mortar instead of lead flashing years ago would benefit to replace in lead so you don't have any further problems in the future kind regards craig
