Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.10 PM
A cowboy tiled our bathroom a few years ago and tiled on top of existing tiles only he didnt apply the adhesive propeely and caused leaking. A tiler who was rwcommended removes them and applied plywood and then tiled on top. 2 years later wecalled him back as brown stuff was seeping through the tile grout. He removed them and the wall was black! He replaced the plywood and tiles a d mow 2 months later its starting to come throufh again. Is it the pkywood ir something worse behind the orifinal tiles? Anyone any ideas? Help!

He shouldn't have used Plywood and from the sounds of it, that's the problem.

Hi, as ADT suggests Plywood is not an ideal backing for Tiles, Wedi Board or Hardi Backer Should be used, but I suspect that as it is a recurring staining there is a Mould infection in the wall, under this backing board. The infection will grow through anything, You need to remove all surfaces back to Brick/Block, Dry out, Seal then install correct Backing board and Tile
