2 water stain patches on upstairs hallway and a bedroom

Hi, these 2 patches have appeared and on checking in the loft, noted that where the chimney breast is, there seems to be water lines going down it. Also when you walk into the house you get an earthy smell, could the chimney be causing this? What should our next step be, should we contact a builder/roofer, and how do you get a good one?

Sounds like a leak coming from the lead flashing around the chimney. Should not cost to much to repair. Contact a roofer they will be able to advise more. I'm sure there are plenty of good roofers on my builder. Once repaired dry out any damp areas with a dehumidifier then cover stains with stain block and paint over with normal paint.
