Low water pressure atbasin and bath taps

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.10 PM

I have low pressure at Hoy and Cold taps in the bathroom, kitchen OK. Water mains comes into house via the kitchen. when the bathroom tap/taps are turned on very low pressure, and a noise you get when water is restricted. I have a sealed system ,the cylinder pressure gauge shows 2.2 bar. but that's not what is at the basin and bath hot taps. The cold to the bathroom is run in 22mm pipe, first into the airing cupboard, through a relief valve(3 bar), then reduces down to 15mm through a NRV, to the hand basin and bath. could this be a blockage or something else. please. Bob

Hi Bob, From your description it sounds like you have an unvented hot water cylinder? If this is the case you should have mains pressure water, reduced to 3 bar via you PRV to your bath taps. Although possible, It would be unlikely to have a blockage in both the hot and cold pipe work at the same time. Did the hot and cold tap reduce in pressure at exactly the same time? If not it could be partially seized tap valves. It would be easy for you to diagnose this by removing the tap head and replacing the tap valve. These cost a few pounds from any plumbers merchant and it is a fairly easy job for a DIYer. I would start here and if this doesn't resolve the issue at least you have ruled out the tap as the problem and can then continue to investigate. Hope this helps John Briody JB Plumbing and Heating
