Traffic vibration coming through dorma roof - what can be done?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.54 PM
My local council have installed a pelican crossing outside my house (I did object, but fell on deaf ears). My property is an old house, solid brick walls rather than cavity, and has a dorma roof, so the entire upstairs is kind of like a loft conversion. When heavy vehicles go past and drive over the metal studs that are fitted in the road surface, the vibrations come through the house, particularly upstairs. I can feel the vibrations through the mattress of my bed and it even rattles the radiator on its brackets at times. I have complained to the council but don't have high hopes of them doing much. Is there anything that could be done to my house to stop the vibrations? Upstairs isn't great for sound either (I had acoustic plaster boards and celotex-style insulation boards fitted, but they don't seem to have had any effect.
