gas service but still leaking
Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.35 PM
Hi, I got my boiler serviced as I've moved into a new flat. When I went to show it to gas man they was a small leak below boiler. The gas man claims it has been serviced but it is still leaking. When questioned about this, he said he didn't want to mess with it as it was such an old boiler. I had expected this to be fixed as part of the service but am not sure if this is asking too much? It's a ferroli combi boiler, prob 6-10 years old but not ancient.

This is a common misconception by the public of a boiler service it is not to repair existing faults these are deemed as extra chargeable works in the same way garages charge for a car service plus any additional faults found during the servicing.
A boiler service is a fixed fee, not including any additional works required.
Any fault(s) are bought to your attention then you are advised of repair costs where by you are in a position to make an informed decision!

i totally agree with james when im called to a boiler sevice if there is any faults these are repaired at an additonal cost im not going to supply or get parts or use sealants as part of a boiler service fee . you dont take your car to the garage and ask for a service and say fix the leaky radiator while your at it and expect it done as cost of the service i think you know what the response will be .

same here not a fan of clients who ask for repairs when tasked with a service. Any faults found during service should be logged and the client advised of the next steps. it is true old boilers are a waiting disaster, soon as you touch them they go wrong.
hope this helps
