How to change Low voltage downlight (MR16) over to mains (GU10) in a solid ceiling?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.14 PM

I know how to change over low voltage to mains with grid ceilings where you can just lift up the neighbouring grid to access the wiring however in a solid ceiling I can't do it. I tried to pull out the spotlight and pull out the wiring but I can't get the transformer out as it's too bulky to fit through the down light fixture and the wiring doesn't seem to allow it to extend that far. What do I do?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you cannot get the input side of the transformer through the lamp holes then you have no option but cut holes in the ceiling or lift the floor boards in the room above. Colin
