Cracks appearing in cement on the edge of a new pitched slate roof.

Hi, We've just had a single-storey rear extension built on our house in London. The work was completed in October but a few weeks ago (around mid-December) we noticed that the cement along the edge of either side of the pitched roof has developed some cracks. One chunk of cement about six inches long has actually come loose near the outer edge of the roof. It shouldn't be difficult to patch it up but it's a bit worrying to see cracks in cement that's only a few months old. Can anyone advise whether this is something that we should be worried about? We still owe the builders a small amount of money for the contract and they've said they will come and fix it but we're just a bit worried that it needs to be repaired in the first place. Thanks for any advice you can give us. Mel & Kevin
