Loft Conversion

Cowboys? Left in the lutrch what can i do?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.54 PM

I contracted builders to convert my loft. They appointed their own surveyor to inspect the works. The builders have gone, the roof leaks, the new electrical work has blown my whole house and I am not building regs compliant as a result of the stairs, smoke alarms and sprinklers. My builders are supposed tro be coming back to finish, but do not seem keen. The council say that the builders surveyors are responsible for sign off. In short I have lost a bedroom to gain boarded loft space as things are. I have contqacted the surveyor twice to get him to advice what further needs to be done,l no response. I am at a point now where my house is not habitable nor can I sell it. What can I do?

Have you paid the builders? If you have then I doubt very much you will be seeing them again. If there is still money owed then find another builder to complete the work The build should have been signed off by building control at various stages, building control do not work for the builder they work for you so they would have no reason not to contact you back, Is it local authority building control or private? We have cleaned up many other builders cock ups with loft conversions.... they are not as simple as it seems and many builders underprice and then have to leave the client half finished because the funds are not there to complete to a signed off condition
