Damp Proofing

Renovation project with 30yr old damp proofing

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

Hello! We've recently bought a fabulous renovation project and intend on doing everything to it. The house was built in 1908 and has a rendered exteriour with quite a few cracks, we did have a sctuctual survey done before we proceeded with purchase but it seems the cracks have come from a new road which runs along the side of the house causeing vibrations. Anyway, back to my initial question... When we purchased the house there was a damp proofing guarantee which was passed to our solicitor - this expired July 2014. As we've taken all ground floor walls back to the brick and intend in replacing the lintles above the windows. Is it worth or is it required, to have the damp proofing done again? And what are the average £ per sq mtr? Thank you

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I agree with the previous poster that now is a good time to inject but do not concur that you should attempt it yourself as you might not do it correctly through inexperience and cause twice as much cost at a later date in the future. Injecting a chemical damp course need to be used in conjunction with the correct render mix including a waterproofing additive. A bona fide company will then issue a 30 year guarantee against failure of their work.

Yes definitely re-inject the damp coarse as they generally only last 10 years it would be silly not to do it while the plaster is stripped... the procedure for injecting the damp coarse is actually really simple and you could do it yourself.
