Using a woodburner with a cracked slate hearth?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

The slate below my multi fuel woodburner has cracked today, is it ok still to use? Also when it comes to replacing it what would they do and how much is it likely to cost? The woodburner was installed in jan 2011. It is worth having a thicker piece of slate?

Hi Karen, Without seeing the problem is the slate cracked in middle with leggs of stove either side, if this is the case not a proper base supporting ie sand cement gravel, and how thick is existing slate? It will be safe to carry on using stove, to change the hearth the stove needs to be removed and set aside new hearth 40-50mm thick not sure about cost. Regards Aneurin

I agree, not supported enough or if it is a one piece hearth do it in two separate sections a front hearth and a infill (what the stove sits on top of). The cracked hearth will not affect the use of the woodburner.
