Gap at bottom of door frames after new skirting fitted

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

Hi, I have recently had new skirting board fitted in a number of rooms. The old skirting matched and was moulded on to the door frames, so now there is a small gap at the bottom of each door frame where it meets the floor (about an inch or so high). I suspect filler might look a bit amateur. I am wondering if it would work to insert a piece of specially cut wood and fill over the joins? Would this be a carpenter's job or a handyman job?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

i would put my trust in a carpenter for a best finish it would be possible to scarf a piece of similar timber into the gap then possibly sand across the area so you dont notice its been put in to the gap and so theres no edges or signs of the gap ever being there .

Our remedy to this would be to scarf a piece in, generally you need to remove a bit more of the timber in order to insert a new piece. This will ensure that the new section wont break or split when its being shaped or prepared for decoration. The new section depending on size can be fixed in place with glue, pins or screws. Once it is secure you are able to fill and decorate as required. A carpenter would be the correct person for this particular job
