Floorboards sinking

Hi, Some of the floor boards on the 1rst floor of our house feel like they are sinking. It is quite a small area on top of the staircase but it does feel like it is extending and getting worse. As the lino flooring is glued I haven't been able to check whether this is due to rot or it it the beams under that are giving in. What kind of trade would it be who would be able to have a look at it and get it fixed? Also, is there a safe way for me to unstick the lino without damaging the floor under so that I can have a look at what the flooboards look like under? Many thanks.

any competent trade could carry out this inspection, flooring is possibly going to be damaged, better than the floor giving way.

Hi, The only way of telling what is happening s to physically look, so you will need to pull up your lino. It should come up with no problem and will need sticking down again. It should be pretty obvious what the problem is when you look at it, whether it is loos floorboards, rotten joists etc. You should be able to see the problem for your self you can then decide who to call. If you don't feel comfortable looking yourself, try a handyman, carpenter or builder to check, at this stage the cheapest option would be best, fixing is a separate issue.
