Noisy water tank or pump in my central heating
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.13 PM
My hot water tank/pump is making a loud buzzing noise. This happens every minute or so and lasts a few seconds. This noise usually occurs when I run a hot tap, but I'm concerned that it is happening even if no taps are running and the hot water/central heating are switched off. I live in a second floor flat and the flat below is vacant, so if there's a leak, I wouldn't know! I would welcome any advice anyone can provide. Many thanks.

this is a difficult one without hearing the noise and seeinng the system. The ball valve on the cold water tank can cause a vibration after the tap is used, we call it water hammer and is cured with a different type of ballvalve. The pump can also make a number of noises as can the control valve but I dont understand this happening every minute or so, it more usually happens on start up. I would suggest doing tests doing different things with the others switched off and see if you can replicate and pinpoint the noise. Once you have tied down the noise call in a heating engineer, not a plumber, they will be able to confirm your findings and repair the problem which ever it is.It is also possible the noise is from another flat and coming through the pipework to yours.
