Plastering & Rendering

plastered walls on 200 year old property

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

I have recently had a bathroom wall re-plastered. The first time round, the plasterer had done a shoddy job leaving trail marks and many holes which required filling. The second time round, the plasterer had skimmed over the first layer of plaster which has resulted in more trails and several "bulges" on the wall. The trails have been largely sanded down but the "bulges" remain. The contractor has said that this is as a result of the property (and not just this property but all the properties in the neighbourhood) being old and the walls longer being straight. Should I just accept this excuse or is this just poor workmanship?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A skilled plasterer should easily be able to bond out the larger bumps and skim the wall flat.

Yes i agree to the answer above. A skilled plasterer should easily be able to float out any bulges with a backing compound. If a plasterer is leaving any sort of trails in skim, then quite simply put HE ISNT A PLASTERER!!. This is horrendous and im sorry to hear you have had work done by someone who has clearly done a three day course and thinks they are a plasterer. If this is not too far send me you details and i will help you put this right as its not on!
