What Plaster to use after walls have been chased for electric?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.13 PM

Hi We have just had a rewire and now have various channels (with cabling in) throughout the house and also exposed back boxes, where I chased the bricks out to make room. Just wondering what type of plaster is now best to use? I have been told carlite bonding as that's easy to use for the DIY'er. But also been told just the gypsum bonding? Do I need to PVA the bare brick before putting the bonding on? Also am I right to put the one coat of bonding up to about 3mm below the surrounding wall to allow for skimming? Do I then 'scratch' the bonding to allow the skim to adhere to the bonding? Many thanks

Hi i use gypsum bonding and you can use this up to 11mm. PVA the backround surface before appliying bonding and let the PVA go tacky before you add bonding. Make sure the bonding it just below level with the existing walls so theres room for plaster to be applied and then scatch lines once the bonding has firmed up a little.

Yes use bonding purple bag covers 2-3 square metres at 10-12mm per bag, so a bag doesn't go far, dries out a lot slower than finish so plenty of time for the DIYer. Set back 3mm I always use board finish because it pulls faster that's the green bag.
