Damp Proofing

Damp patches appearing on bedroom wall to front elevation and side wall.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

I live in a terraced house built about 1910. One bedroom sometimes gets had black mould on the PVC window frame which washes off easily. Recently I've noticed grey and black patches on the walls in the corner of the room - some to the front wall and some to the side. The wallpaper seems to be lifting in this corner too. The front elevation is brick and tile I believe and the side wall adjoins next door. I have checked the attic which is insulated and can't see any dampness to the plasterwork on the wall above the area of dampness in the bedroom. Can anyone suggest how what this is and how to remedy it? Thank you.

Hi There The problem sounds like a condensation issue, even though the space above this area is insulated the wall itself is too cold, which is causing the moisture in the air to condense on the areas you have mentioned, which then allows the mould to grow, you need to have better insulation, heating or you need to thermal board the walls that are affected, so that it increases the temperature of the walls and stops the moisture from reaching its dew point. regards Joseph
