15.63kw cooker ok on 6mm?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.09 PM

Hi I want to get a rangemaster cooker says its 15.63kw. I currently have a 6mm live and 4mm cpc from board to outlet behind cooker then the same cable from there to the cooker its on a 32c breaker. It's run in the wall about 10meters to the board. Dose it need to be change to a 10mm cable or will 6mm cable be ok? Many thanks

using diversification tables if you use a cooker outlet without a 13A socket outlet incorporated in the control panel then according to on site guide table A1 you can use a 32A protected circuit(6mm). Using these tables 15.63kw=27.39A(without plug socket) Generally as in apendix H4 a 30 or 32A circuit is usually appropriate for household or similar cookers up to 15kw(with plug socket) NOTE: INSTEAD OF THINKING CHECK YOUR ON SITE GUIDE USE THE GUIDE IT WILL TELL YOU THE FACTS THE DIVERSIFICATION TABLE IS IN APPENDIX A TABLE 1A ON PAGE 110 OF THE GUIDE. HOUSEHOLD COOKING APPLIANCE THE FIRST 10A OF THE RATED CURRENT PLUS 30% OF THE REMAINDER OF THE RATED CURRENT PLUS 5A IF A SOCKET OUTLET IS INCORPORATED IN THE CONTROL UNIT. THE ABOVE IS A DIRECT QUOTE FROM THE ON SITE GUIDE AND I DESPAIR JUST HOW MANY DO NOT KNOW THIS AS IT REALLY IS BASIC STUFF. OH AND BY THE WAY Rangemaster 110cm Electric Ceramic Range Cooker Professional Plus 110 Ceramic Black (91880) ... Elec Load @230v, 15.63kW. Dual circuit glide-out grill and it is a domestic cooker. ITS ALSO IMPOSSIBLE LET ALONE 100% FOR THE CABLES TO MELT IF CORRECTLY PROTECTED THATS WHAT THE 32A MCB IS FOR AGAIN BASIC STUFF. I ALSO WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY REGISTRATION DETAILS FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE ON THE REGISTERED COMPETENT PERSON WEBSITE ALL REGISTERED ELECTRICIANS WILL BE ON IT.

6mm is way to small, 15.63Kw = 15630 watts which works out at 67amps, so 16mm cable would be required unless you allow for diversity. Minimum size would be 10mm on a BSEN60898 type B 50amp MCB.

Dear, Some think is wrong how can you fine 15.63 Kw cooker in domestic use . and do not belive that 15.63Kw = 27.39 amp or you can use 32 amp circuit to supply 15.63Kw cooker 100% your cables starr=t to melting and burning it's danger beter way ask one more time cooker current.

Kevin has summed it up very well, and still true to-date with the 18th edition regs

Based on the info you have provide you would need a 16mm cable with a current load of 68 Amps. I think there has been a mistake in the Kw size. Call rangmaster and ask them for the Max load. I very much doubt it's just short of 16Kw What model cooker is it?
