Best roofing material for balcony above living room?

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

Hi, I'm currently in the process of having the flat roof under my balcony replaced, due to it leaking down side of patio in living room underneath. My dilemma is that I am hearing so many different answers from builders on what materials to use. As it will need to allow some foot traffic, which is best to go for? Felt Rubber (i.e. Firestone) Fibre glass Ideally I would want to finish this off with artifical grass as a top layer. Any answers and reasons why would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Andrew

I would advise you to use Fibreglass (2x 450csm) this ideal since it can be moulded around any awkward shapes and railings. If your budget does not allow for this then patch it until you can afford the additional costs. You may have people trying to recomend EPDM (pond liner) but personally I do not like this material which is a tad thicker than a bike inner tube. Again do not use a general builder for for flat roofing as you will get a general flat roof covering, speak to local flat roofers specialising in this field, they have better knowledge and better quality materials to hand. I would advise GRP (Fibreglass) and totally agree with Fibretechs answer. We have done many of these and Fibreglass will last a lot longer than any other products on the market. We give our customers 20 year insurance backed guarantee on GRP Tomlinson & Son Roofing
