Help! Should the back of my house have been left open?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.54 PM

We're having a single story extension at the back of the house. The old narrow extension was coming down to be replaced with a new full width extension. The building work started 4 weeks ago and the first thing that was done was the brickwork and extension taken out. This left my house exposed to the elements from day 1. The footings etc went in after a couple of weeks but the back is still entirely open meaning the joists and floorboards are now wet. Is this a standard way of working? When I asked my builder (on several occasions) he said this was perfectly fine and everything will just dry out. This seems crazy to just leave the back rooms of my house exposed? Any advice is welcome...

Your house should not have been left open to the elements. This could cause a huge amount of damage and is dangerous. Not to mention if it wasn't secure your insurance would be void!!
