Adhesive for removable wall tiles in a shower for an access point?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.53 PM

I need to fix 3 tiles in my shower that are removable to get to an access panel behind so I can get to the mixer and connections. The access panel is made up of marine ply. My question is what adhesive would I need so as to remove the tile without destroying it, after digging out the grout of course.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You should not be putting an access panel in your shower this is asking for trouble ,in all the years that I have been tiling I have never come across this ,but if you have got to have one then it should not be done in ply it should be done in cement backer board a good one is, no more ply.Use a cement based tile adhesive.

Showers should be tanked fully to stop any water getting behind the tiles. So an access point would be detrimental to the waterproofing. If you absolutely had to have an access point there I would suggest tiling the 3 tiles onto a backer board with a flexible cement based adhesive, and putting magnets behind to hold it, then running silicone sealer around the perimeter to seal any joints . If you need to remove the said tiles just put a blade on the silicon and remove it.
