Inverted thermostat logic

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

Our thermostat packed up the other day and a guy from Homeserve came out to replace it. He's installed it in with the logic inverted so when the thermostat think it's on, the boiler stops heating and vice versa. Alas, it seems to a be a pretty cheapo thermostat with no model info on it (it just says Smart on the front) so I'm not able to research this myself by finding the installation instructions, but does anyone know whether this could be a simple as switching a flag on the thermostat itself so that it knows it needs to flip the output logic on its relay? We had another guy come from Homeserve come out today to look at this, but he seemed to be pretty inept. He said he'd "never seen anything like it" to a gas combi boiler and had difficulty working out how to get the front panel off, even though it has four big screws in each corner... Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I've seen this before on a cylinder thermostat where "call for heat" and "satisfied" were wired in the wrong way round (i.e. swapped). This could be a similar problem
