Can I extend a sloping roofline to meet the 'normal' roof line?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.53 PM

My house is odd. It is a "normal" looking house on the left side (viewed from the road), and a brick 'lean-to' on the right. The 'lean-to' is not an extension, it was built like that, complete with pan tiled roof to match the main house. The downstairs part is used to house a kitchen and utility room, and is about 12 feet by 20 feet. The upstairs has a tiny boxroom with a sloping roof accessed via a door on the landing. This room is about 5 feet by 10 feet. It leans from about 6 feet up to within 6 feet of the apex of the roof. Can I extend the sloping walls up the the existing roofline and make the house look more like a normal property, and gain some upstairs space at the same time?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, hard to respond without seeing drawings or photos. However in principle I see no reason why you could not build as you have proposed. You will need Planning Permission and Building Regs approval which should clarify the issues involved. Good luck
