Which boiler do i need for 4/5 bed bungalow - Baxi or Vaillant?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

Ive a quote from an installer who recommends a Baxi another Vaillant, not a lot of difference in the price but want to make the right decision. We have a 4/5 bed bungalow, the boiler is situated in the kitchen and the bedrooms situated down the hallway with the main bedroom at the end. The distance between kitchen and furthest bedroom would be approx 45ft and we have 8 radiators. The boiler we have now is on its last legs so rather than let it die we want to change it before then. We do have a problem with hot water as sometimes it stops and that it so we have to wait a while which is a pain as my wife, son and me are all shift workers so we may need 3 showers one after the other. Our boiler now is a Main Combi 24HE which has been here a while but we only moved in 2 weeks ago and have noticed the timer control looks as it will fall off the boiler in the near future. I know i am asking a lot of answers but if anyone can give me a few ideas before i spend 2k plus it would be appreciated...

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Rob The brand isnt really relavant. whats important is what size the boiler is. what size the cylinder is Vaillaint make a boiler with a cylinder built in, if your quoted for this, then I would recommend you fit that, although I doubt it with your current budget. There is a lot more to you question are you replacing your cylinder?

How many bathrooms do you have?? Any boiler will cope with 8 radiators but its the hot water where combi boilers struggle. I would be going for a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 29 or 34 cdi. But its if and maybes, depends on cold water pressure, gas pipe size, bathrooms, showers etc. Out of the 2 you mention I would choose Vaillant all day long.

It appears you do not trust the information given to you by your chosen heating engineers, but still you are prepared to trust other heating engineers on this site who you have never met or know very little about their credentials! Ok down to business, Valliant certainly have the edge over Baxi in terms of reliability, if the quotes are like for like in terms of boiler model, then their should be very little in cost difference. Heating engineers are a finicky lot, when it comes to preferred boilers, I personally install Worcester Bosch as a first choice then Ideal boilers as second choice, many here will disagree and have their own favourites, but if it comes down to your proposed boiler selection, then go for Valliant.
