What order is best to remove tiling, plaster and paint, fit new units and flooring?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.12 PM

We are having a new kitchen to replace our 40+ year old kitchen. - The walls are tiled from above the worktops to under the wall units. I would like to remove the tiling - is this a big job and would the whole wall need plastering afterwards? - Is it best to ask the fitters to remove the old kitchen, then plaster and paint, and then they return in a few days to fit the new units? - Should we put down the floor last of all? When should we take up the old floor?

Hi bwthyn5. The best course of action is to completely remove all old units, tiling, flooring etc, re-plaster the room or patch plaster then fit the kitchen. The floor can be added afterwards, depends on what is going down, laminate floors for instance should not be laid with units sitting on top of them as it is a floating floor. Hope that helps, please contact me if you have further questions. John

The order we work on an average size kitchen is: Day One: Remove the old fitment , flooring and wall tiles. Electrical Work 1st fix. Plumbing / gas work 1st fix. Day two: Make good walls to decorating standard if not being re-tiled or sufficient to re-tile. Days three, four and five am: Install cabinets and worktops etc Day five pm: Electrical and plumbing / gas work 2nd fix. level & fit cabinet doors etc Day six. Wall tiling, flooring etc
