Central Heating

water pressure on my potterton boiler shooting up and down

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.53 PM

I turned my central heating off earlier this evening and the boiler made some noises but i wasn't sure as I had already moved away from it. I had turned on to just hot water. The water pressure seemed to have rapidly raised but seemed to settle. Then it started dropping quite quickly it was heading to the red low bar so i put some water into the system. But then the pressure rapidly rose. In panic I turned it off....... but couldn't leave it alone so turned it back on to hot water. I rain the hot tap and it shot straight down. I have turned it off. I don't know what would happen if I turned it to heat as I am too worried to. Any ideas.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You need a Gas Man to come and pump up your Expansion Vessel to 1 bar of air make sure he knows what he is doing! Expansion Vessel It will NOT be Split. It just needs pumping up with Air Change the PRV Valve as well. If the Gas Man Does not have a Foot Pump you have hired the Wrong Guy. This will fix it. Don't listen to any Rubbish about Changing the Boiler Because the Expansion Vessel is Split it just needs Pumping up with Air.
