Adjustment of existing doorway from kitchen into dining room - didn't get building regs!

As above states.... We recently paid a builder to remove the doorway between our kitchen & dining room and to make a more open planned area. He took out the doorway (leaving the existing lintel in place) and installed a further concrete lintel into the existing structure. We didn't realise we needed to get building control involved. What should we do now?
