Gravel driveway - where lawn was, it is now starting to grow back (plus lots of weeds)

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.12 PM

We moved in to a house which previously had a concrete drive on one side and lawn on the other. The previous occupants have ripped out the lawn and put down loose gravel over both the previous drive and the lawn. Where the lawn was it is now starting to grow back (plus lots of weeds) as it wasn't done properly. To fix this can I rake back the stones to the old driveway side (which is clear of weeds etc), and fix the old lawn side by digging out to (say) 200mm and putting down weed membrane, hardcore and then raking back the stones (and adding more as required)? I'm keen to avoid digging up the whole front but at the same time want to do a proper job that will last.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Of course you can, get out there, get some fresh air in your lungs and burn those calories. Seriously, 200mm is plenty if you are using it for parking cars on but if it's just decorative it's slightly excessive. Ray

The answer to your problem. I would clear the whole area as its infected with weeds . Then put a membrane down that lets water out . But it doesn't have to be 200mm deep. Then put the stone back but clean it of dirt weeds etc.
