Replacing a gravity fed shower mixer bar
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.53 PM
We have a standard gravity fed system with the cold water in the attic and the hot water in the bathroom. Recently our old shower mixer bar started almost literally falling apart so I went on Amazon and bought a new one. The description said that the bar should competently work with a minimum of 0.2 bar of pressure, and not being an expert by any means I assumed that this was more than low enough. After fitting we have found that the pressure in the shower is pretty poor- certainly not a patch on the old one. What I find quite odd is that when I turn the shower on at it's coldest temperature the flow gets even worse, which suggests to me that there is some sort of issue with the cold water intake maybe? This is supported a little by the fact that 3/4 of the bar is hot to touch with only the part nearest the cold water pipe being cold? I am about to send this bar back to the people that I bought it from and buy a new one, but before I do I was wondering if I am missing something obvious and if there's a specific type of shower mixer bar for a gravity fed system? I am looking to spend no more than £30 ideally. --- The hot and cold are not mixed up as the shower bar would be on upside down if it was on the other way. As you look at the pipes the hot is to the left and the cold to the right.
