Damp Proofing

What kind of damp am I dealing with?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

Hi there, I have some damp issues in my living room and Im really worried that its going to be a big job we cant afford to fix. Im hoping its just condensation and not rising damp...can anyone shed some light? Its in both alcoves around the fire place on a 1900s two bed end terrace. The front of the house wall is wet to the touch internally but not mouldy, to about halfway up the wall. Mould has started to grow (more green than black?) on the back of the alcoves which is the side of the house wall. There is also some blistered paint but we didnt prep the walls properly apparently, and painted matte over eggshell gloss a couple of months ago. My friend says this can make it blister. I just sprayed 3-in-1 nould killer on it all, and 10mins later when i came back to wipe it down some more paint had blistered. What is going on? And what do I do about it?! Please help!!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

without looking at the issue it is not possible to be 100% sure of what is happening, it sounds like water ingress from the exterior, either the wall, chimney or roof, would check the pointing, the cement fillets on the gable, lead work around the chimney, chimney haunching, roof tiles,under-felt . to name a few. best bet is post the job on the site and get a local expert round to assess the issue/solution. good luck Alex
