Type of paint for decorating a room after damp-proof course

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.12 PM

We've had a damp-proof course done in our living room. The plaster is now dry, and I am keen to decorate before Christmas. I understand I can't put wallpaper on the walls for at least 12 months, but am able to paint it. My question is, does the paint have to be a special type of paint, or can I decorate straightaway with the Farrow & Ball emulsion that I would like to use? Thank you! Caroline

Hello Caroline, For new plaster its best to use a matt paint, as opposed to a Vinyl Matt. I would recommend Armstead White Matt available from Dulux Decorating Centres. And first coat should be diluted with water. With new plaster it will continue to dry & so expect the odd crack here & there. Then once thoroughly dry, only then would I consider splashing out on F&B, @£67 for a 5L Litre tin, it makes sense to just apply the Armstead for now, £17 for 10L. And if using F&B I strongly recommend the modern emulsion, not the flat emulsion. Best o luck, Paul
