installing an extractor fan - do i need to run an electric cable during the first fix to where i want it?

im looking to install an extractor fan in my bathroom. do i need to run an electric cable during the first fix to where i want it? also its a timer one so can this still be run off the light switch or does it need its own power source thanks

You need to run a 4 core cable from the light to the extractor fan position,you need a switched live (to start the fan while light is on and bathroom is used), a permanent live(to keep the fan running on the timer when the light is switched off), a neutral and an earth.Do this while first fixing.
