Exposed brick on removal of bathroom tiles

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.12 PM

1930's house, half tiled bathroom. Removing tiles has exposed the brick work on outside walls, original plaster still in place above; and exposed cinder block on internal walls. Re fitting bathroom with shower bath and shower. The two internal walls will be painted and round the bath/shower area tiled. I have been advised by a plastere to strip off all the plaster, overboard plaster and lath ceiling, plaster board / skim internal walls and tile straight onto plasterboard. Tiler also wants to tile onto plasterboard. I feel hardieboard would be more suitable round bath/shower area, but need advice please on whether to strip the old plaster from the room first -it appears sound - hardieboard upto it, I think there would be a depth difference or have the wet area walls re plastered as the original? I plan to use large ceramic or possibly quartz tiles.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
