Painting Fibreboard (skamolex) close to a Log burner?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.53 PM
I am having a wood burning stove installed therefore I am relining the inside of the fire place with Skamloex heat resistant boards. The new stove will sit around 100mm from the boards so will get quite warm. Would anyone know if it is ok paint in standard emulsion (water based) as I am struggling to find anything that will match the colour of the walls I already have? I don't really want to paint the inside of the fire place black. Any help appriciated.

I have the same fireboard behind my multi burner which gets extremely hot when burning coal on it , the fireboard is about 100 mm behind the fire as is yours. Although I must say that it is not normal practice to paint fireboard in this situation, but I painted mine in with the main wall area in a standard trade vinyl matt and in the 5 years it has been done I've had no problems with it at all. fireboard is quite porous and a couple of coats of thinned down vinyl matt emulsion suffices.

Hi,
I would get in touch with a crown trade centre .
Ask about there fire retardant paint systems.
Hope this helps.
