Pointing of roof - cement at front of house dried much lighter than the back
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.53 PM
Hi, I recently had my roof repointed by a roofing company and the cement at the front of the house has dried much lighter than the back. The roofer has said that this is because the sun has dried the front of the house a lighter shade. Should I accept this answer? The roofer said that he used the same mix for the front and the back so therefore I would have thought that it should have dried the same colour over time probably the part that doesn't get the sun so much a bit longer to dry but still be the same colour! Thank you for any advice on this problem. Gail

I would have thought it should be the same colour if the same sand and same sand and cement ration was used, perhaps it was batched slightly wrong; ghost said is it really going to be a big problem?
I would consider after one winter and by spring you will be gardening and have forgoten about this. If there is a slight variance between front and back ....may I say it is not the end of the world?

I always use a ready mix cement where you just add water. Its more expensive cement mixture but you get the same colour always.

the simple answer to this question is , even if the mix is the same front and back , the sun will always affect drying out . But most likely the lighter drying out is due to the wall not being wet enough before pointing .. I always lightly spray the wall with water , before i leave the job on the afternoon to help even drying out . Also i always water seal brickwork on completion... regards paul
