Gas Works

Boiler location - in kitchen, outhouse or roofspace

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.11 PM

Currently seeking quotes to get gas installed at semi detached property. We would prefer, if feasible, that the gas boiler is not installed in the kitchen. We have a small outhouse to the rear of the property. One gas installer provided a quote to locate the boiler in this location and another then said it would be inefficient because the pipe from the boiler to the house then has to go outside and will cost more to run as a result! He then suggested the boiler is installed in the roofspace. Can you please advise.... 1. Is the second guy just trying to make life easier for his guys installing by suggesting the outhouse is not appropriate? 2. Is there drawbacks to having boiler outside or in roofspace? 3. Am I likely to need access to the boiler directly and not just with the wireless remote? Thanks very much Cathy

The further away from the gas meter the bigger the pipe becomes, hence more cost. Also boilers in outhouse, make sure it is very well lagged as it will be much colder than internally fitted. I am not a fan of fitting boilers in the loft either, everytime you need to reset, re-adjust or top up the system you will have to climb up the loft.
