reconditioned radiator only holds 4 bars of pressure will it be safe to fit?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

I have recently refurbished a few cast iron radiators. One of them doesn't hold 6 bars of pressure, when i test them with a Rothenberger pressure tester it stops at 4 bars. Im not sure if it is wise to fit on to the heating system which only ever goes to 2 bars?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Contra to Heat Central post, when pressure testing a refurb cast iron rad it should be pressure tested to 1½ to the working pressure, so round it up to 4 bar. If no leaks present after 1 hour has elapsed then your good to go.

If it holds up to 4 bar it is not perfect but should be fine. Sealed boilers should never get above 3 bar due to PRV anyway. Conventional boilers would never get near that either.
