Rain water in a new polycarbonate roof

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.11 PM

This summer we had a new upvc 4m x 2m lean-to conservatory built on the back of our bungalow. The roof consists of 4 1m x 2m twin wall polycarbonate panels that are fixed to the bungalow under the main roof overhang. After the recent bad weather (rain and strong wind – not against the conservatory) we noticed that one of the roof sheets had water inside 3 of the channels. The water extends 10“ up the channel from the front of the conservatory. I have checked the roof and cannot see how this water has got in between the roof channels. Before I contact the installer I would like to know if this is a problem and if so how big a problem. Any advice very much appreciated.

Hi. The water is blowing up the sheet ends . If your conservatory roof finishes under the main roof theres less chance of it happening at the top. The end of your roof sheet should finish half way at most across the guttering. The open end of the sheet should not be seen. It should have a moisture tape over the end and then a plastic end cover over the tape. You should not get water in the sheet it done correctly. You could get some staining within the sheet, but with age you will notice less. If it is too bad you could ask for another sheet as not easy to get staining out. Pay to check your guttering is clear and not full of water as that happened before.
