Skirting solution for room with concrete lip 15cm from floor?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.11 PM

I need some advice on the best way to proceed with a room that I am attempting to modernise. It was literally a shell and described as an indoor shed when I moved in - since then I have had electrics and central heating put in and also had it plastered, but I'm really stumped with what to do re skirting boards! At the bottom of the walls, rising 15cm from the floor is a concrete 'lip' of sorts, so it looks a bit like a concrete skirting board- how do I tackle fitting skirting boards with this?! An added complication, as a result of a recent kitchen renovation I had a door in this room blocked up. But when the plaster board was skimmed, they skimmed right down to the floor, so I now have a section of the wall that does not have the concrete lip which is going to cause me problems when fitting the skirting I'm sure! Please help! I am a very unsavvy female DIYer at the end of my tether!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, How far does the the lip protrude ? One way to overcome this is to add on to the skirting to create a rebate . Whilst increasing the mould. Make sure you skirting is taller than the lip , and usally a 2 x 1 planed batten is enough to overcome the lip and conceal it. Hope this helps
