Is my chimney part of a load bearing wall?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.11 PM

Hi I have a slight issue, I'm currently renting a council house of which the living room is tiny but before I moved in there was a lot of work done downstairs, ripping down of walls and new ones put up, so to speak. Between my living room and dining room I have a chimney wall, part of which they took down when doing the downstairs, but it's really in the way so I want to take it down. I have had a family friend, who's a builder, come and look at it. He's said that because part of the wall has already been taken down and the joists run a certain way upstairs, then it's not supporting but just wanted a second opinion! Thanks in advance

the chimney is not load bearing ,but if you remove part of the chimney the rest of it should be supported with heavy duty metal brackets to be able to pass building control regs Builder/plasterer
